Francesca Berini

Graduated in 2011 in Industrial Biotechnology and Biocatalysis, she accomplished in 2014 a PhD in Analysis, Protection, and Management of the Biodiversity Resources.

Since the beginning of 2015, she has been working as post-doc in the group of Microbial Biotechnology at University of Insubria, Varese, Italy.

Her main activities concern: (i) isolation and production of secondary metabolites with antibiotic activity (glycopeptide and lipopeptide antibiotics), (ii) study of antibiotic resistance mechanisms, (iii) identification, production, characterization of enzymes of biotechnological interest.

In 2019, she was appointed as adjunt professor of Biotechnological Processes for the Bachelor degree in Biotechnology and she has been co-supervisor of more than 20 graduate, Erasmus, and PhD students.

She joined three national and international research consortia, studying microbial biodiversity and development of enzyme-based bioinsecticides.

She published 12 papers on international peer reviewed journals and she is currently Guest Editor for Fermentation and Antibiotic journals.

She participated with oral or poster presentations to more than 30 national and international congresses and meetings.

In 2016, she has been awarded a prize for the best Italian Ph.D thesis in Microbial Biotechnology; in 2017, she received the FEMS Research and Training Grant for spending three months as visitor scientist at Universidad Complutense (Madrid, Spain).
