Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the 8th Croatian Microbiological Congress with International Participation, which will take place from 22–25 September 2026 in the inspirational surroundings of Trakošćan, a scenic and almost fairy-tale location that stands among Croatia’s most beautiful landmarks.

Building on the long tradition of the Croatian Microbiological Society, this year’s Congress is dedicated to the theme “Microbiology for a Sustainable Future”, highlighting the essential contributions of microorganisms to human and animal health, environmental resilience, food security, and the emerging bioeconomy. In alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global scientific priorities (ASM, FEMS, WHO), our programme aims to showcase microbiological solutions to today’s most pressing global and local challenges.

The scientific programme is structured around five core sessions:

1. Fundamental Microbiology for Future Applications
2. Microbes for Human, Animal and Plant Health
3. Microbes for the Healthy Planet
4. Microbes for Sustainable Food Systems
5. Microbial Biotechnology for a Sustainable Bioeconomy

To foster interdisciplinary thinking and bring a fresh dimension to the Congress, we are introducing new layers to the programme. Cross-disciplinary Modules will use common themes to bridge diverse microbiological disciplines. These will be designed to energize discussions, bridge disciplines, and spark new collaborations, and will go beyond traditional talks—featuring dynamic TED-style contributions, moderated dialogues, science-communication experiences. Programme will also include Interactive formats focused on early-career scientists and creative skill-building activities.
