Dr. János Varga graduated as a biologist from University of Szeged (fromerly Attila József University) in 1986. Since then he is working at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science and Informatics, University of Szeged. He also spent several years in several laboratories abroad including the University of Birmingham (UK), Wageningen University and the CBS Fungal Biodiversity Center (Netherlands). His main interest is the molecular taxonomy and genetics of Aspergillus species, and their mycotoxin producing abilities. He took part in several national and international projects, and member of several boards including the Microbiological Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the International Commission on Penicillium and Aspergillus and working groups of the ISHAM. In the last decades more than 180 papers were published by his team in various international and national journals.
