She received her PhD in Molecular Biotechnology at the University of Zagreb (FTB) for research on microbial communities capable of degrading s-triazine herbicides. During her postdoctoral study at Yale University, USA in the frame of Fulbright program, she extended her research interests to antibiotic resistance genes in cow manure and in soil following manure fertilization. Currently she leads a research group investigating the role of pharmaceutical wastewaters in the development and spread of antibiotic resistance genes in receiving aquatic environment. In addition they are investigating the mechanism of bacterial resistance against macrolide antibiotics through antibiotic inactivation.
