Ivan-Krešimir Svetec, Croatia

Dr. Ivan-Krešimir Svetec is an Associate Professor at Laboratory for Biology and Microbial Genetics, Department of Biochemical Engineering, Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, University of Zagreb. He received his BSc in Biotechnology and PhD in Molecular Biotechnology form Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology and MSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology form Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. He was a visiting researcher at Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences (MedILS), Split, Croatia and French Institute of Health and Medical Research where he studied essential genes in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. His scientific interests are molecular genetics and genome stability and targeted genetic modification of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and non-Saccharomyces yeasts. He is a member of Committee for Contained Use of Genetically Modified Organisms (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia) and Scientific Committee for GMO Food and Feed. Prof. Svetec is an active member of several scientific societies as well as one of the founders and presidents of Croatian Association of Genetic Engineers.
