Egon Bech Hansen

Egon Bech Hansen is a Professor of microbial food ingredients at the National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark. Dr Hansen obtained his PH.D. from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) focused on DNA replication in E. coli. Dr Hansen then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland USA. He spent 22 years engaged in industrial research and product development in leadership positions at two major global bioscience-based companies. He has been Vice president of Research and Development, first in Chr Hansen A/S and later at Danisco A/S. In 2011, he returned to faculty position at the Technical University of Denmark as a Professor and department head. He has co-authored around 100 articles, including book chapters  and is  a (co-)inventor of 5 patents. Dr Hansen current narrow research interests are focused on innovative use of proteolytic system of lactic acid bacteria with the specificity of the cell envelope proteinases as well as peptide functionality for sustainable and alternative food fermentations.
