“Antibiotics are unique medications whose targets (bacteria) are living organisms, evolving, adapting and acquiring mechanisms that confer resistance to those drugs. It is our absolute duty to keep the antibiotic active as treatment for human diseases.” — www.waaar.org
WAAAR (www.waaar.org) aims to raise awareness about the urgency and magnitude of the threat of losing the antibiotic effectiveness. As has been announced in January, it is now launching a solemn declaration against antibiotic resistance, a draft of which you can now download.
Just like FEMS, your may want to support this action and encourage your members to do the same. An action plan is now being developed as of the ESCMID meeting in Barcelona 10-13 May. Anyone interested in the process, please contact WAAAR.
Today you received a message with your login details to log in to the new FEMS online grant application system which was scheduled to go live on Friday 16 May. However, later today we learned that ScholarOne plans to do maintenance on the system this weekend. If applications are submitted to the system during the maintenance, it is not unlikely that errors would be incurred which is not handy in a start-up situation when we all start using the system for the first time.
Therefore, it has been decided that the system will be live on Tuesday 20 May to receive the grant applications for the FEMS Research Grant with the application deadline on 15 June 2014. An announcement will be made on the website to inform potential applicants accordingly.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to you.
