Igor Jurak is head of the Laboratory of Molecular Virology at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Drug Development at the University of Rijeka. He received his PhD in biology from the Universtiy of Würzburg with a thesis on the molecular basis of species specificity of herpesviruses in the laboratory of Wolfram Brune. He continued his studies on herpesviruses in the laboratory of Don Coen at Harvard Medical School and contributed to the discovery of miRNAs encoding herpes simplex virus 1. He is currently investigating the basis of the regulation of herpesvirus gene expression and the role of post-transcriptional modifications in virus replication.
