Dimitrios G. Karpouzas

Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of Thessaly

Dimitrios G. Karpouzas is a Professor of Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology, in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of Thessaly and currently serves as a Head of Department.

His main research focus is on the interactions of agrochemicals (pesticides, nitrification inhibitors) and veterinary drugs with soil microorganisms. His group tries to shed light into the mechanisms involved in either the microbial degradation of these compounds or their potential toxicity on the soil microbiota using classic microbiological approaches, molecular, biochemical and omic tools. He has a particular interest in the evolution of pollutant catabolic traits by soil microorganisms and the application of microbes in bioremediation strategies.

He has authored more than 130 articles in scientific
journals and coordinated several EU-funded (FP7-IAPP-MCSA; MCSA-IF-H2020,
MSCA-ITN-EID-H2020, RIA-H2020 etc) and national funded projects.
