Ivan Matić is first class research director at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) France and leader of the “Robustness and evolvability of life” laboratory at Institute Cochin, INSERM U1016-CNRS UMR8104-Université Paris Cité, Paris, France.

His education includes Engineer Degree in the Environmental Biology (Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Zagreb, Croatia), Master in Molecular Genetics (Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Zagreb, Croatia) and PhD in Cellular and Molecular Genetics (University of Paris XI, Orsay, France).

Ivan Matić is studying the origins and consequences of phenotypic and genetic variation in bacterial populations, especially in response to environmental stresses. He studies involved molecular mechanisms, but he also takes into account evolutionary and ecological forces responsible for their emergence. Besides generating fundamental knowledge, his research can be valuable for providing promising targets for new drugs to kill bacterial pathogens and to develop robust microorganisms for industrial applications.
