Sylvie Friant is a Research Director at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), France. She leads the “Membrane Trafficking and Lipid Signaling” team at the University of Strasbourg, Institute of Molecular Genetic, Genomic, Microbiology (GMGM), CNRS, Strasbourg, France. She has a strong expertise in membrane trafficking and lipid phosphoinositide signaling. In her laboratory, they use the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and primary cells from patients as models to study human genes involved in rare genetic diseases (myopathies, neuropathies, ciliopathies, rare blood diseases) and coding for effectors linked to membrane trafficking. Their main expertise is to undergo yeast humanization for functional study and validation of novel genes or variant of uncertain significance (VUS) identified by NGS data.

Since 2011, she is a member of the Advisory Board of the Life Sciences Faculty (U. Strasbourg) and member of the Pedagogical Committee of the Health and Life Sciences Doctoral School (U. Strasbourg).

Her education includes PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology, University of Strasbourg, France (1997) and Habilitation to direct research (H.D.R.), University of Strasbourg, France (2006).
