Branka Vasiljevic
Branka Vasiljevic studied Molecular Biology at the University of Belgrade, Serbia. She started her career at the Institute for Nuclear Sciences “Vinca”, and continued at the Institute for Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE), University of Belgrade. As a research fellow, she spent one year at the Department of Microbiology, University of Munich, Germany, and she was awarded EEC Research Fellowship for post-doctoral research training at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Leicester, UK. She was also a professor of Molecular Genetics, at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, and at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. Since 1998 she was Head of the Laboratory for Molecular Microbial Genetics and Ecology, IMGGE, Belgrade. During the period 1999-2010 she was Director of the IMGGE, Belgrade, and at the same time ICGEB Liaison Officer.
Areas of her research interest are Molecular genetics, Microbial diversity and ecology, and Molecular biotechnology. She was the principal investigator of many projects funded by national or international grant agencies.
Since 2020 she is a FEMS Secretary General.
