Masaki (Masa) Shintani
Masaki (Masa) Shintani is an Associate Professor at Research Institute of Green Science and Technology, Shizuoka University, Japan. He is also a guest scientist in BRC-JCM, RIKEN, Japan (2012-). He received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Tokyo, Japan in 2006. His research topics are 1) understanding behaviors of mobile genetic elements containing degradative plasmids in various environments, 2) Evolution and ecology of plasmids and other mobile genetic elements, 3) Co-evolution of host bacterium and horizontally transferred elements including plasmids, 4) Creating a comprehensive database of plasmids. He was a guest scientist in DoME, University of Vienna, Austria (2016-2018). Dr. Shintani received the 15th Japan Prize in Agricultural Sciences, Achievement Award for Young Scientists (2016) and Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Agrochemistry Award for Young Scientists (2016).
