Conference “In the Society of Microbes” was held on the occasion of 60th anniversary of the Institute of Microbiology and Parasitology of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka

On December 13, 2018, within the “The Days of the Faculty”, the Institute of Microbiology and Parasitology of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka organized a conference “In the Society of Microbes” on the occasion of its 60th anniversary. The first head of the Institute was prof. Vladimir Bezjak, then prof. Zvonimir Gall, after whom followed prof. Bernarda Ćorić and prof. Miljenko Dorić. On behalf of the Faculty, the Dean prof. Tomislav Rukavina, also a microbiologist, welcomed all the present.  Prof. Roberto Antolović, the President of the Croatian Microbiological Society congratulated the anniversary, presented the Society and its current project, “In the Society of Microbes”, in which the Institute is one of the partners.  The head of the Institute prof. Maja Abram reviewed the 60 years of the Institute’s work and employees who spent longer or shorter period of their teaching, professional or scientific career at the Institute. The past and present scientific research at the Institute was presented by prof. Marina Šantić.  Marija Vuk, a student of the Faculty of Sciences and a volunteer in the project “In the Society of Microbes”, presented the project of community based learning from a student perspective. In the end, assoc. prof. Ivana Gobin spoke about 60 years of teaching at the Institute. Additionaly, as one of the mentors in the project, she presented the service learning from a teacher perspective.
